Mark Courtney is a Professor in the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration. His fields of special interest are child welfare policy and services, the connection between child welfare services and other institutions serving vulnerable populations, and the professionalization of social work. His current work includes studies of the adult functioning of former foster children, experimental evaluation of independent living services for foster youth, reunification of foster children with their families, and the influence of juvenile courts on the operation of the child welfare system.
Pajarita Charles, PhD, Lecturer and Researcher at University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration
Pajarita Charles is the Project Director of the California Youth Transitions to Adulthood Study (CalYOUTH) and a researcher with the Chicago Center for Youth Violence Prevention at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration (SSA). Her responsibilities on the CalYOUTH study comprise multiple aspects of project management and study implementation including survey development, survey administration, data management and analysis, report and manuscript writing, dissemination of findings, IRB submissions, correspondence with study personnel and key stakeholders, and staff management. Charles’ primary interest is in preventive intervention research and social welfare policies that affect disadvantaged children and families. Her current research focuses on the intersection of family structure, father involvement, and child and family wellbeing. Charles holds M.S.W. and M.P.A. degrees from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from the School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
